IVF Virtual Tour: Embryo Transfer

After the embryo has grown and developed to the appropriate stage, it is transferred back to the uterus in a process referred to as embryo transfer. This is an important step in the IVF process and we take great care to ensure the transfer is as atraumatic as possible.

Embryo Transfer Using the information from your trial transfer, the physician prepares the transfer catheter for your cervix. The embryology lab then loads the embryos into the transfer catheter. Under ultrasound guidance the transfer catheter is then gently placed through the cervix and into the uterine cavity. The embryos are then placed one centimeter from the top of the uterus. The catheter is then microscopically evaluated to ensure that all embryos were placed within the uterine cavity.

Two weeks later, a pregnancy test is performed to determine the results of the IVF cycle.
