Virtual Embryology Tour: Fertilization

Fertilization Early the morning after retrieval, all of the mature eggs that have been exposed to sperm are checked for fertilization. Fertilization is evidenced by two pronuclei (which will eventually form the nucleus) found in the center of the egg. The presence of three or more pronuclei signifies abnormal fertilization. Normal fertilization occurs in about 75% of all mature eggs exposed to sperm.

After fertilization the embryos are placed back into the incubator for growth and are assessed daily by our embryologists.
