IVF Virtual Tour: Uterine Evaluation and Trial Transfer

Prior to in-vitro fertilization we feel it is important to make sure the uterus is in optimum condition for pregnancy. Accordingly, the first step in IVF is a thorough uterine evaluation to identify endometrial polyps, uterine fibroids or other abnormalities. If these are identified they can be removed to enhance your chances of pregnancy.

Uterine evaluation can be done with a hysterosalpingogram, sonohysteroscopy or hysteroscopy. Most commonly we use either sonohysteroscopy or hysteroscopy, which can be done in our office with minimal discomfort.

In addition to evaluating the uterus for abnormalities we also like to evaluate the shape and length of your cervix and uterus by performing a trial embryo transfer under ultrasound guidance with the same catheters and techniques we use for the embryo transfer. During the trial transfer we will take measurements and make notes that we can refer to during your embryo transfer. If problems are encountered during the trial transfer we can make the necessary changes to ensure the best embryo transfer possible.
